Why Stevan Endorses Huckabee

1.4.2008 — 3 Comments

Not that my endorsement matters in the long-run but after the comments from a few in the last post, I figured I’d give a glimpse into some of the reasons I’m pulling for Huckabee!

#1 – Faith in Politics
Huckabee’s words: “My faith is my life – it defines me. My faith doesn’t influence my decisions, it drives them. For example, when it comes to the environment, I believe in being a good steward of the earth. I don’t separate my faith from my personal and professional lives.”

As a follower of Jesus Christ I believe that this is EXACTLY what EVERY believer should be about – allowing our FAITH to DRIVE us, not merely ‘influence’ us! This makes me extremely nervous in this area of politics – especially after many of us Evangelicals voted for a guy who claimed similar phraseology, but I don’t believe that’s reason-enough NOT to vote for an Evangelical Christian for President. I had a conversation just today about whether we should vote for a Christian as our next president – when the issue of integrity and politics aren’t even seemingly possible to be seen together. I say YES! Just because one-or-more examples before us have failed to stay-the-course (in OUR eyes, mind you) as being both men of Christian Faith AND Leader-in-Chief, doesn’t mean that we should give-up and NOT do our part to see a Follower of Christ in office!

#2 – Sanctity of Life
Huck’s words: “I support and have always supported passage of a constitutional amendment to protect the right to life. My convictions regarding the sanctity of life have always been clear and consistent, without equivocation or wavering. I believe that Roe v. Wade should be over-turned.”

In my lifetime I can only imagine how many potential presidents, disease curers, inventors, teachers, preachers, and artists have been killed in the EVIL that is abortion.

With a President like Huckabee – I believe that in my lifetime we could see America lead the way in reversing the tragedy of abortion and re-realizing the value of human life at conception!

#3 – Taxes/Economy (Fair Tax)
Huckabee’s words: “I’d like you to join me at the best “Going Out of Business” sale I can imagine – one held by the Internal Revenue Service. Am I running for president to shut down the federal government? Not exactly. But I am running to completely eliminate all federal income and payroll taxes. And do I mean all – personal federal, corporate federal, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, self-employment.”

It’s hard to imagine a world without a large portion of my paycheck going instantly back to the government. The “Fair Tax” that Huckabee supports would remove the Internal Revenue Service, Federal Income Taxes, and numerous other cash-cows that we’ve paid for our entire lives. In place, a 23-percent sales tax (that would be difficult to get used to!) would be the “norm” and would enforce an ALL-PAY of tax back to the government. The more you BUY, the more you PAY. For the first-time, all consumers would be paying taxes! Not just the ‘legitimate’ consumers who ‘decide’ to do the right thing and pay their income taxes, but EVERY consumer!

Obviously there are HUNDREDS of pro’s and con’s to the Fair Tax. Read more on Huckabee’s “Taxes/Economy” plans here.

#4 – Energy Independence
Huckabee’s words: “The first thing I will do as President is send Congress my comprehensive plan for energy independence. We will achieve energy independence by the end of my second term.”

It’s about time that the government does all that it can to promote the US in becoming independent of foreign energy-sources! I believe Huckabee has the desire to make that happen!

Final thoughts…
As my mother wisely said, ALL of us can learn about where Huckabee stands on issues that we believe are valuable by doing our own research! Don’t say, “you don’t have time”, or “any candidate that is pro-life is good-enough” – learn where the candidates stand and make an educated-decision.

Huckabee has a page on his site devoted to where he stands on hot-topic issues.

  1. Thank you. I have been doing research and especially looking for voting records (unsuccessfully). I appreciate knowing why others are voting the way they are. It helps me take in what I have accessed and weigh the thoughts and beliefs of others who hold my same faith. Thank you.

Let me just say here, that as an aging American, I am in the category of ‘those who are aging or already aged’, and who have lived life long enough to find politics very disappointing and even more discouraging; BUT unless we kick ourselves into action we will fall right into the ‘old rut’ of not staying informed to be involved in keeping our American right to voice our opinion through our vote and instead head straight to our lazy boys to wrap up to sleep and dream of a hope in what others know and find out that it all will work itself out somehow!

God gives us guidance through His Holy Word! He also gives us a good picture through His inspired Word – of the last days that we all hope to not have to deal with! But maybe we will be around (at the very least, our future of ‘family members’ will) what do we do with what we needed to then?!!

We have responsibilities as human beingings… as a husband, a wife, a parent, a born again Christian and as an American citizen!

    I have work to do!
