MOVIE REVIEW: “Across the Universe” (PG-13)

3.7.2008 — 4 Comments

poster_across-the-universe.jpgAcross the Universe was one of those movies that I was super-excited about being able to rent when it became available. We were able to get it from Blockbuster the other night and Jess and I watched it with Scott late on Tuesday night.

I wasn’t impressed.

Don’t confuse me here – the music is amazing – the Beatles-only Soundtrack would be a great thing to own, but the movie-itself didn’t invoke any positive-thoughts. It’s dark/mysterious and happens to be at the top of most numerous lists of ‘movies to watch while you’re stoned’ – as found out through some simple Googling.

There were some neat visual-elements scattered throughout, but overall it was a bust.

Save your $4 rental fee and rent something else if you have the option.

  1. Stevan…
I am right there with you… I thought the movie was interesting until the middle when I knew I needed to be stoned to appreciate or understand anything that was going on. However, I did buy the soundtrack and I am in love with it! Music yes, movie ranges from interesting to downright crazy to a tad bit depressing however.I’m bummed out cause I really wanted to like it!

  2. dont listen to them!!!

    but then… I was stoned…..

  3. Yeah, Jay, I loved the music, too–but really felt like I was supposed to be stoned to truly appreciate it. I also felt like you were supposed to go have….no, I can’t say that on a blog.

What’s wrong with you so-called Christians. You cannot enjoy a brillant film informed by great music. Jeez.
