So apparently on American Idol this week, the finalists all sang, “Shout To The Lord” at the closing of the show. If you didn’t see it, here’s the YouTube cut:
As I sing the song, the first line says, “My JESUS, My Savior”; as THEY sing the song, they sung “My SHEPHERD, my Savior”…
Yup, “Jesus” is still offensive!
im just gonna step out on a limb and suggest that Jesus isn’t so offended at not having His name mentioned when He’s referred to as King, Lord, Comfort, Shelter, Tower of Refuge, Shepherd, Savior – and to have His promises praised…. WOW! yeah…. I think His essence was well covered. I do realize that “at the name of Jesus every knee will bow..” but…. Jesus is also a name of many a man in the world. There’s only One who is referred to with all of the other descriptors! im super encouraged by that video — u cant sing about Someone’s character without the Holy Spirit speaking to ur spirit….
I love that Jesus isn’t miffed that He only got described and not called by name.
so i think i just blogged on ur blog.
sorry!
Yeah, it is kinda funny that they skipped His “name” and then sang a bunch of His names. Pretty silly on their part that they were somehow “avoiding offense” by not singing “Jesus”…yet they declared who He is and gave Him glory.
I told Stevan when we were first watching it that God was being praised whether some of the singers or their produces realized it or not. Like you said, Sher, we know the Holy Spirit spoke to that group whether they recognized it as Him, yet, or not. Wow is right!
