Jess and I managed to catch each episode of VH1’s “Celebracadabra” – a brand-new ‘reality’ series that I would’ve otherwise skipped if it weren’t for the magic-content!
I was interested to see seven b(c?)-listed celebrities do their best at a craft that I wish I was better at! The series proved entertaining, though I wish another network would’ve done this instead of VH1 who obviously felt it was important to keep-in as much edgy-material (language, skin, hateful-antics) as possible. This idea would’ve faired much better on one of the “other” networks and reached a much-more attentive audience.
Last night was the finale where C. Thomas Howell won $100k for becoming the ‘best’ celebrity magician. I agreed with the judges final decision, but was hoping for Hal Sparks to win instead of Howell as he is much more a magician.
Most of the tricks up until the finale were great to watch! Each celebrity had obviously been given the entire ellusionist.com library and told to learn as much as they could as quickly as possible! They were also each given a professional magician “coach” and my favorite combo was Hal Sparks and Rocco (creator of the D-Lite trick I love so much).
After the finale they aired another 30-minute “coaches special” without the celebrities. The professionals showed some of their “own” tricks including magician-judge Jeff McBride showing his one-of-a-kind card-throwing skills!
In conclusion, I’ll watch the series if VH1 decides that they’ll do a repeat-season. Some celebrities I’d love to see as celebrity-magicians:
Bill Cosby, Pierce Brosnan, Bono, or What Not To Wear’s Stacy London (she already has a Magish-name!)
