Archives For Ministry

I registered this week for the upcoming “Missional Holiness Conference” taking place at Calvary Wesleyan Church in Bethlehem, PA on September 16-18, 2012.

I attended the conference last year and am excited again to take part this year in this event. I had the privilege of talking a bit about the conference last year on The Techology Show podcast a few days after the event. See that episode here.

This year’s speakers include Karl Eastlack, Alfredo Barreno, Troy Evans, and Harry Wood. Worship is being led by Chris Stephens – a phenomenal musician, worship leader, and friend. The seminar speakers are equally exciting this year with Alfredo Barreno, Rich Avery, Sherilyn Sheets (this name sounds vaguely familiar), Tim Moore, Tom Armiger, Troy Evans, and Greg Reynolds each scheduled to speak on various topics in their respective seminars.

More information on the conference and the speakers’ topics is available here on the conference site.

I have also been given a promotional code to share with anyone interested in attending the event. The promotional code makes registration only $79 per person until August 31, 2012. To receive this special price, you must enter the code 792012 when you register online at missionalholiness.org.

Registration includes a Sunday evening Keynote Address, 6 main rallies, your selection of 4 seminars, two breakfasts, 2 lunches, and four breaks. There will also be a wide variety of resource and information tables available. There are a variety of lodging possibilities in the area, but the conference has worked out a deal with the Hilton Garden Inn at a rate of $89/room for up to 4-person occupancy.

Press release today found here on the Christian News Wire website.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., June 12, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ — The Wesleyan Church has demonstrated its commitment to faithful stewardship, financial accountability and transparency by receiving accreditation from ECFA, the national financial accountability organization announced today.

“We are pleased to include in our membership a denomination committed to offering the good news that faith in Jesus Christ makes possible a wonderful personal relationship with God, a holy life empowered by His Holy Spirit for witness and service, and assurance of eternal life in heaven,” said Dan Busby, president of ECFA.

The announcement came as church leaders met in Lexington, Ky., recently to set policy, approve legislation and elect a new general superintendent, The Rev. Dr. Jo Anne Lyon.

“As part of The Wesleyan Church’s responsibility to all people, we pledge our commitment to following faithful stewardship practices by seeking and obtaining accreditation through ECFA,” Lyon said. “The standards ECFA sets for accountability are centered in biblical teachings and Christian faith, and will help us equip and empower our churches in their mission and ministry to make disciples for Christ.”

A member of the ECFA board, Lyon, who was elected as one of three General Superintendents in 2008, is the first woman in the history of the denomination to serve in the position. Following the denomination’s vote to restructure the board, reducing the number of superintendents to one, Lyons was elected the sole General Superintendent.

ECFA accreditation is based on the ECFA Seven Standards of Responsible Stewardship(tm), including financial accountability, transparency, sound board governance and ethical fundraising.
The Wesleyan Church joins a growing number of Christ-centered churches and ministries across America, supported by more than 20 million donors, which have earned the right to display the ECFA seal. When an organization is accredited by ECFA, it demonstrates its willingness to follow the model of biblical accountability.

The ECFA = The Evangelical Counsel for Financial Accountability. I’ll be interested to see the down-hill effect this accreditation will have on our local churches. More on the ECFA here.

WesleyanHQ just put our interview up on their YouTube channel!

What an honor to have been interviewed by Jerry Brecheisen for this video!

When I pulled back into the driveway this morning after taking the kids to Lowes for our latest “Build & Grow Clinic” I noticed that the church just next to our home (First Assembly of God, Shippensburg) had an enormous amount of motorcycles sitting in the parking lot.

Of course I was curious…

A quick run-through of my built-in calendar (in my brain) and I realized that today was the 7th Annual Ship Wish Ride – an event in our community to bring awareness and monetary blessing to some families-in-need.

I was so thankful that we caught it just minutes before the bikers all started their engines and took off on their ride. I snapped a quick panoramic of the bikes and riders prepping for their ride and then sat down and readied to film their start.

What a treat! Many of the riders waved and “beeped” at Ezra and Ella as they stood just behind me with Jess and waved at all the riders!
